Ellevio and GodEl proudly present the contestants for this year´s challenge.

Startup 4 Climate is one of Europe’s biggest innovation challenges, targeting young companies with ideas that can accelerate the energy transition. Startup 4 Climate is one of our most urgent initiatives to date, as we seek to limit global warming to 1,5 degrees. 

This is your chance to contribute to this year’s competition. Below, you will find all the contestants along with a short description of their innovations. Pick your favorite by clicking “vote now.” You can only vote once. The contestant who receives the most votes will secure a spot on the finalist shortlist and will get to pitch their idea to the jury at the grand finale on November 13th.

Once the voting has concluded, all votes will be thoroughly reviewed and verified. Duplicate votes will be removed, which may result in adjustments to the total number of votes. The winner of the People’s Vote will be announced on October 1st.

As an extra treat, Ellevio and GodEl will donate 5 SEK per vote to Doctors Without Borders, (Läkare Utan Gränser) for their project in Sierra Leone.

On October 7th, we will reveal the Finalist shortlist.

TerGeo develops an innovative water desalination technology powered by renewable energy only. TerGeo shall provide an environmentally friendly water plant, which year after year shall provide freshwater without any significant operation and maintenance or energy cost.

Peak Energy

We help partners that manage charging stations decide when cars should charge. That way it costs less money and the electricity system doesn’t get too crowded. Imagine the power grid like a traffic jam: if all cars drive at the same time, everything stops. But if they take turns, the road flows smoothly and everyone gets where they need to go. Charging works the same way. If all electric cars charge at once, it causes problems. But if charging is spread out over time, there’s enough for everyone—it’s cheaper and better for the planet. Our smart software makes this happen, whether it’s one charger at home or hundreds in a big parking lot, all over Sweden and the Nordics.

DecisionCore

Imagine every building is like a big Lego house that needs fixing and upgrading over time. Today, many owners don’t know what to fix first, so they wait and waste money and energy. Our AI is like a super-smart helper that looks at all the building’s data and says: “Do this now, fix that later, and here’s money to help you.” This way, buildings use less energy, save money, and pollute less, which is good for both people and the planet.

We have invented a method for turning plants to useful products with less energy and much faster, cheaper and without the need for using fossil fuels and oils!

Cestore

You know how factories and industry release CO₂, and that’s bad for the climate? At Cestore, we’ve found a way to stop that CO₂ from hurting the planet. We turn it into a safe salt that can go into the ocean — just like nature does already. It’s a clean, smart way to store CO₂ without needing trucks, tanks, or deep holes. We do it right where the CO₂ comes out from the chimneys. It’s cheaper, faster, and helps the ocean help us. Join us on our journey — we solve carbon.

Palats is like a giant online treasure chest where schools, cities and big companies can share and reuse furniture and building stuff instead of throwing it away. Every day, thousands of people use it to find what they need, just like shopping but way better for the planet. With our app, you can see what’s hiding in storage rooms and give things a second life. This helps save lots of money and keeps the Earth happy by reducing waste and pollution!

Tether

Electricity feels like magic—it’s right there when you flip a switch! But it has to come from somewhere, like solar panels or wind farms. So what if the sun isn't shining or the wind isn't blowing? Right now, fossil fuel plants help fill this gap - but batteries could do the same thing. Did you know that a car is parked 95% of the time? That means electric cars are basically just big batteries on wheels! Imagine an entire city full of these batteries, all of them charging in harmony - they can help power homes and cities. Well, that's what Tether does! We help parked EVs work together to support the power grid, so we can use less fossil fuel and build a cleaner, greener energy system.

Apexify

Imagine big computer rooms, like giant brains, that get super hot when they think. To keep them from overheating, they drink a lot of water and eats electricity, which isn’t great for our planet. Apexify makes a special, eco-friendly liquid that helps these computer rooms stay cool consuming much less water and electricity, making them kinder to the Earth!

Korall

Korall is building a machine that pulls CO₂ out of the air, like a big air filter for the planet. It runs harder when there’s a lot of clean electricity, and slows down when electricity is needed elsewhere. The captured CO₂ can be saved underground or used to make clean fuels, instead of digging up oil. This helps energy companies use their extra power in a useful way and makes the world cleaner at the same time.

Solstice Energy Storage

Do you know the feeling when your feet burn on the sand at the beach in summer? We use that same idea—only way hotter! We catch sunlight with big mirrors and heat up sand until it’s really hot. The sand keeps the heat for months, like a giant thermos. Later we can use it to make electricity, warm houses, or help factories run so even when the sun sets, we still have clean energy.

The Tape Solution

Sticky Solar Power made a special tape that helps make solar panels better and cheaper. Usually, solar panels need very hot metal to stick the parts together, which can be hard and waste a lot of silver. Our tape has tiny copper wires and sticky glue that work without heat, like putting together a puzzle. This way, the panels are faster and cheaper to make, use less silver, and can make more electricity. It also helps the planet by using safer materials. Our tape makes clean energy easier for everyone and helps keep the world healthy.

aCurve

We need to take action for the climate crisis. The Earth is getting hotter, ice is melting, and there are extreme weather events. But if we use all the data that companies have, we can help stop climate change. Data helps us understand problems, make smart choices, and reduce pollution to make a better future. Using data analytics, we can make things work better, keep track of important things, and make sure everyone is doing a good job. Gemit Solutions has a platform called aCurve that gathers the data from different sources to one place. aCurve is easy to use and help organizations understand and take the right decisions so they for example can save energy and use fewer chemicals.

Harness ecological energy from flowing water with groundbreaking new water technology.
jabeGRP has, through revolutionary hydropower design, innovated a mobile river turbine system based on electric rig structures similar to oil rigs, utilizing the natural water flow to generate power without dams, barriers that obstruct transport, or impacts on fauna and flora.

This is an ecological and renewable technology that transforms the kinetic energy of ocean currents, rivers, archipelagos, and tides into usable electricity. The turbine design can be compared to moored boats, as the turbines are typically mounted on rafts or other floating structures.

Conneqty

Imagine your house, your summer cabin or even your family camper has a little superhero. That superhero is called Conneqty. It’s a smart box that talks wirelessly with tiny helpers called Piqts. Together they watch for leaks, freezing pipes, or hidden mould. If trouble starts, Conneqty shouts a warning and can even stop it before it gets worse. That means your things stay safe, your parents save money, and the planet is happier because we don’t waste water, energy, or materials. Instead of waiting for disasters, Conneqty protects your spaces every single day.

Phoneix Plastic Recycling Machine

At Simplify Plast, we’ve built a smart machine that takes old plastic—like shampoo bottles and food containers—and turns them into big, strong boards, kind of like giant LEGO bricks. Instead of throwing plastic away or letting it pollute nature, we give it a brand-new life. These boards can be used to make useful things like walls between rooms, toilet sinks, kitchen countertops, and even fun playground equipment! Our machine is special because it uses less energy and does everything—melting, shaping, and pressing—all at once. We’re working with the Arctic Business Incubator to make more machines and help people around the world recycle plastic in a smart and fun way that helps the planet.

Sunsurf Solar AB

PeatModule is a smart invention that helps us build solar panels on soft, squishy ground like bogs and wetlands i.e. places where it’s usually too tricky to build. Instead of using heavy poles that go deep into the ground, we use a light system that gently spreads out the weight. This helps the planet in two ways: if the land is rewetted, it stops harmful gases from escaping, and at the same time, it lets us make clean energy from the sun. Since a big part of Sweden is made up of this kind of land, we can use it to help both nature and people.

Climatopia

Climatopia is a game where you get to run the world and decide how to save our planet. You choose how to use energy, cut pollution, and still keep people healthy and happy. Every choice you make changes the future—will the Earth get hotter, or will you keep it safe? It’s like a big “what if” machine that helps kids learn how the world works, and how we can work together to stop climate change. Climatopia makes saving the planet into an adventure!

Edgy

Edgy makes the big backup batteries at phone towers smart. Our software lets them help the power grid by storing energy when it’s cheap and selling it back when it’s needed, while still keeping them ready in case the tower loses power. This helps phone companies save money, earn extra, and makes it easier to use more wind and solar energy without the grid breaking down.

Vyse tech

When you use hot water at home, a lot of electricity and clean water gets wasted. That means you pay more while the planet gets hurt. We made a tiny water heater that fits inside the faucet. It heats water right away and only when you need it. That makes sure you don't have to pay extra, you don't hurt the climate and you get your warm water preciselly when you want it, No more waiting for hot water, no more big splashes by opening the tap to full flow. The faucets can even “talk” to each other so lots of sinks work at the same time without using too much power. The heater is also cheaper then other heaters, so you can save money while also saving the enviorment.

Miravolt HES

Most electricity meters send data to old systems that only help create bills. Miravolt HES is a new, safe system which has AI that helps energy companies use that data smarter. It looks at weather, prices, and energy use to help save electricity, avoid problems, and use more clean energy. It runs safely on local servers and works even if something breaks.

Solarity Living

We fill your thermos with warm water heated by the sun in the summer. Then we use it in the winter to keep you and your family warm. While we keep you warm, we store the cold in the thermos. Then in the summer, we cool your room using the stored winter cold. As we repeat it every year we avoid emissions and save money so you can get more Lego toys.

We only use the sun above your head, the ground beneath your feet and the cold outdoor air. No other rare and expensive materials are needed for the thermos.
While we keep your room temperature comfortable, we make sure you can install more solar on your roof. If prices are too low, we buy it and store it. To maximize solar.

Net0

The planet is getting warmer because there’s too much carbon dioxide in the air. Forests can help fix that—they act like sponges that soak up carbon and store it. At Net0, we work with forest owners in Sweden to protect those forests or manage them in a smarter way, called sustainable forestry, where trees are used carefully so the forest stays healthy. Then we help companies pay to support those forests instead of doing things that hurt the planet. It’s a way to fight climate change by letting nature do what it’s best at—being a carbon sink.

Airpelago

Power lines and substations carry electricity so that lights, computers, and games all work. But they need to be checked often to make sure nothing is broken. Today, people use helicopters or climb high poles and machines, which is dangerous and bad for the planet.

At Airpelago, we use smart flying robots, drones, that can fly by themselves and check both power lines and substations. They take pictures and collect data so we can spot problems early, keep people safe, and stop power cuts before they happen.

In short, our drones keep the electricity flowing, protect workers, and help the environment.

Alveo

This year alone, wind energy could have powered 120 million homes and avoided 525 Mt of CO2 emissions if 300 GW of planned wind farms hadn’t been cancelled in the past decade. Rising complexity, grid instability, and shrinking margins are making more projects unviable. Accurate wind measurement, forecasting and optimisation are critical to solving these challenges, as they directly affect farm design, production, profitability and grid stability. Today’s outdated and inaccurate methods cost the industry over €30 billion annually. Alveo is an AI-powered, adaptive drone-based wind measurement solution that provides richer, higher-resolution data, unlocking €260 billion in added industry value.

Did you know that 99% of clothes are thrown away, even when nothing is wrong with them? That’s like throwing away your school book after one semester. our clothes are like lego pieces - you can build new looks, fix broken parts, and keep using them much longer.

Zparq

Zparq build electric motors for all types of boats, and also to big ships. Most boats and ships today have motors that run on petrol or oil, creating exhausts that pollutes both air and water and lead to climate change. With an electric motor there are no pollutions, and it is also silent and do not disturb people, or animals under water. There already exist several electric motors for boats and ships, but Zparq has invented a completely new technology that makes the motor both smaller and better and makes it possible to drive longer. Another good thing is that Zparqs motors do only need half as much material when we build them, which also is good for the nature and environment.

Imagine a giant video game of the world’s electricity system. Our company makes a digital twin—like a smart copy of society—powered by AI. It can pretend to be the future and show what happens if the weather changes, people use more electric cars, or new rules are made. This helps us see problems before they happen and find the best way to keep the lights on, use clean energy, and protect the planet. It’s like having a crystal ball for electricity, but built with science and super smart computers.

Pickel is making a super-smart “brain” for electric car chargers. It helps chargers know when lots of people want to plug in, when electricity is cheap, and how to share power fairly. This means stations don’t get too crowded, the grid doesn’t get too stressed, and charging costs less. For drivers, it’s like having one big charging club where you don’t pay extra just because you use a different station. It makes charging simple, fair, and easy. By doing this, we help more people choose electric cars — which is great for the planet.

Sonicflora

What if plants could talk? 
In fact, they already do, just in a way we can’t hear. Plants produce tiny sounds beyond the range of our ears. We are developing technology that captures these sounds and uses smart computers to interpret them. This makes it possible to detect when a plant is thirsty, stressed, or under attack from pests long before it’s visible. Farmers can then respond at the right time with the right care. The result is higher yields, less water and chemical use, and a healthier planet. 

It’s like giving plants a voice.

Caplyzer

Industries like steel, chemical cause 40% of global CO2 emissions and use hydrogen made from fossil fuels. To reduce our global emissions, we need green hydrogen as batteries cannot power these industries. Green Hydrogen is made in an electrolyzer by using electricity to split water = H2O into hydrogen, H2 and oxygen, O2 but current technology is costly and risky as mixing of hydrogen and oxygen can lead to explosion. Caplyzer has invented a completely new electrolyzer technology where hydrogen and oxygen are never produced together so the gases can never mix, making it safe. And because we don’t use expensive membranes or metals, it’s also cheaper—making the green transition a reality.

When buying clothes in a physical store, you usually test the clothes on yourself and try different sizes to see which one fits your preferences the best. Weon brings this experience to the digital world. By improving the shopping experience, we are reducing returns and helping the planet!

Imagine a LEGO kit that lets you build your own power station. For camping in the wild, blackouts at home or places where kids have never seen lights turn on. You unfold it, the sun shines on it, and it makes electricity. The power is saved in a battery so you can turn on lights, cook food, or charge your phone. It’s like having your own plug — even where plugs don’t exist.

CabiBUS

With the electric car without driver, CabiBUS, you can travel safely and securely in your own cabin to school and activities, even if other people you don’t know are riding in the same car. Instead of driving you, your parents can order a trip directly from home to where you are going, so there will be less traffic and cleaner air.
I am an inventor and a long time ago I heard that cars will be electric and also will be able to drive themself. I understood that it then will be possible for many more to use a taxi, but it must be shared with other passengers, otherwise it will be too much traffic and still too expensive for many. To make it safe to share with strangers I invented the cabins.

Rivus Batteries

Hey kids! Imagine two big tanks full of colourful water that can catch electricity like a Pokémon and let it out later when the sun goes to sleep. That’s Rivus. Instead of burning fossil fuels for energy or mining battery metals in far-away places, we combine plant-like molecules you find in the school lab into a liquid called electrolytes in two tanks. When we pump the liquids past a special wall they swap tiny charges—ZAP!—and store energy. When houses need lights or Lego factories need machines, the charges run back, and we get clean energy without smoke, fire or explosion risks. They last super long, cost less than candy, and make our planet less hot – how cool is that?!

Lumine North

We are Lumine North, and we make lamps in a new and better way. Today, most lamps are built from metals like aluminium. Mining aluminium takes a lot of energy, which creates a lot of CO₂. This makes it one of the most harmful parts of lamp production for our planet. Our idea is different. We have invented a series of lamps made from recycled forest materials. The material is strong, light, and safe. It works just as well as aluminium, but it creates much less CO₂. Our lamps are lighter to carry, easier to transport, and more environmentally friendly. They still shine brightly and last a long time.

Parilo - Get matched with the right ESG system for your organization

MCS Robotics

Imagine giant metal boxes that carry food and toys all around the world. After each trip, they get really dirty — and right now people have to scrub them by hand with lots of water and chemicals. That’s slow, messy, and sometimes not even clean, which can make food go bad. We built a robot that cleans these boxes all by itself using “dry ice,” which is like frozen bubbles of CO₂. The dry ice disappears into the air without leaving any dirty water, and it’s made from CO₂ that’s reused instead of wasted. Our robot makes cleaning faster, safer, and better for the planet.

Zerotude

Every house wastes energy in different ways, through roof, window or walls. Because of that many people are cold or hot and dont have enough money to pay for energy. Also we use a lot of energy which costs a lot of money and is bad for nature. Now the EU wants to change that. Normally, an expert has to come and check each house, one by one, which takes a really long time. But Zerotude can figure it out just from the house’s address, maps the internet and smart programs. With that we can create plan for each house and all houses in the EU. Having a good plan is important because it makes this go faster than having no plan or a bad plan – just like when you are e.g. using google maps.

Sourceful Energy

The electricity price keeps changing. Sometimes it’s expensive, sometimes it even goes negative so you have to pay to give away your electricity. For a family, it’s really hard to know when to charge the car, use the battery, or sell their solar power. Sourceful Energy is like a smart helper in your home that takes care of everything automatically. It makes sure you always use electricity in the best way. So it becomes cheaper for you and better for everyone.

Kaffe Jord

Imagine if coffee leftovers could help flowers bloom. That’s what KaffeJord does! In Sweden, people drink tons of coffee, and we take the used coffee grounds—what’s usually trash—and turn it into super-soil to help plants grow strong, even in cold places. We collect it from homes and cafés, mix it with natural ingredients, and give it a new life. It’s like recycling, but for the Earth. We’re turning everyday waste into green power—with the help of people, science, and a lot of love for nature.

Jerson AB

Buildings use a lot of energy – almost 40% of all energy in Sweden – and that means they cause a lot of pollution too.
But many property owners don’t know how to start fixing it. It feels hard, lonely and expensive

That’s why I started a group where property companies meet up, eat lunch, and help each other do the math and write reports in order to use less energy and be more climate-friendly.
We meet once or twice a month – like a workout group, but where the goal it to make the planet more “fit”

It’s not a big, fancy invention – just people doing the work together, step by step. But that’s how real change happens.
We’re starting in Örebro – and with support, we willgrow across Sweden.

EcoPhi

As the world moves toward cleaner energy like solar and wind, power companies face new challenges. These green sources are great, but they can be unpredictable, and our old power systems weren’t built for that. Our smart automation platform helps fix this. Using AI, it constantly watches over parts of the power grid and spots issues early, like a health check-up for the system. This prevents breakdowns, especially in places with weak or outdated infrastructure. The result? Less energy wasted, fewer outages, and a smoother, faster shift to clean energy. It’s a smarter way to power our world, more reliable, more efficient, and better for the planet.

Solid state Thermal Generator (STG)

The energy cost of AI training, cloud computing and storage is enormous and growing. It also generates large amounts of heat that today is wasted. We have built small system (Solid State Thermal Generator, STG) that not only generate computing capacity but reuse the heat in form of hot water that can be used to heat larger housings and factories. The potential energy savings are as big as 40 % which is almost half of the cost to day!

Enairon

When producing, let's say, toliet roll, machines require super windy air to dry it. Now, imagine that you had to blow out air to dry it. It's very tiring and to have enough energy, you need to eat 100 peanuts/hour. Also, when you work so hard, you get really warm and sweaty. To not waste all your hot sweat, a machine is put next to you collecting the sweat and transfers it to a radiator. But what if is not cold in the room? Now swap you for an elephant. They are great at blowing air and can do the same job on just 63 peanuts/hour. Yes, it is bigger but it loves to stand outside, so this is not a problem. For each hour you save 37 peanuts or 324120 peanuts a year that can feed someone else!

Generation Waste

Imagine if every time you threw away a piece of food, a small light somewhere in the world went out. That’s essentially how food waste works—when we throw food away, all the energy used to grow, cook, and transport it disappears too. Generation Waste are like superheroes, saving food before it ends up in the trash. Our food waste meter shows kitchens how much they discard and how they can save it instead. In this way, the lights turn back on, and we save both the planet and money—bite by bite.

Loop-farming

Imagine a world where food tastes good and makes the planet better, one bite at a time. Our innovation transforms biological waste streams into resources that power food production systems, supply renewable electricity to balance the grid, capture carbon, and return enriched nutrients to the soil. This circular system makes farms more self-sufficient, boosts crop yields by increasing the fertilization effect up to 30%, and reduces eutrophication and emissions. With initial funding, we are now optimizing biogas generation. To reach the next stage, we seek support to refine the gases for multiple applications, unlocking higher profitability and greater climate impact.

Smart Vacuum Pressing

Do you also want to change the world, help our entire nature and make sure that we make all our factories that make paper as smart as they can be? To make sure we can build a brand-new part to fit into machines which directly will save energy in huge amounts without it being difficult to use or complicated to develop. Wouldn’t it be great to be a part of this fantastic journey and go where no one has gone before? An fairytale adventure with a great pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

LOCOMS

We’ve built a machine that takes things like old plastic and leftover plants and turns them into black powder and clean material that factories can use to make fuel and new products. Most machines that do this are huge, dirty, and break a lot. Ours runs on electricity, is easy to move and set up, and one person can run the whole thing. It can use different types of waste depending on what’s around. That means we can clean up trash, make useful stuff, and help our country have its own supply instead of buying everything from far away.

BioLoop

Imagine ugly fruits and veggies like two leg carrots, or brown banana or fat beetroots that no one wants them but they have a lot of nutrients and want to play, so BioLoop helps them to thrive to their full potential,so all these guys go swimming in clean water with no chemical at the BioLoop water park where they swim through this cool technology tunnel where electric pulses helps them to release all their energy & nutrients, then those nutrients are given to good hungry bacteria where they have a party in a big tank for 36 hours to build a new building blocks of food molecules that are used to make like breakfast cereals.This BioLoop amusement park stops destroying forests & the planet.

EVOLTA

Imagine your house getting superpowers: it makes its own heat and electricity with solar panels, a battery, and a heat pump. But the best part is that your house also joins a big “super team” with lots of other houses. Together they create a Smart Energy Network that helps the electricity grid become greener and stronger – while your family pays less every month without having to buy anything expensive.

Tructric

Trucks can go almost anywhere, but they make the air dirty if they are not electric. Trains are clean and very efficient, but they can only go where there is a railway. We use electric trucks on the road in short first and last miles when transporting goods in a trailer, but use trains for the long distance of the trip. In this way we reach all places efficiently without polluting. To make it easy to move the trailer between truck and train, we let the truck do a trick with the trailer, so that the driver can park the trailer on a railway wagon in the same way as your mom parks her car in a parking spot beside the road. Now every transport can be clean and fast and use very little energy.

Energy Node

Just like humans need to cool down or warm up, machines also need the right temperature to work well. More than half of the world’s energy is spent on heating and cooling, and without help, much of it is wasted. Our magic material, Heat Node, can change that. It works like a bath that always feels just right, never too hot or too cold, so machines stay safe without extra energy. The best part is that we can take old batteries and turn them into something new and useful. With Heat Node, machines can last twice as long, cost less, and stay safer. That is why even airplanes want it, and why it can help build a cleaner and smarter world.

Kitocoat

Imagine if fruits and vegetables had an invisible superhero cape that made them stay fresh much longer. That’s what Kitocoat does! We make the cape from crab shells or mushrooms – natural and edible. With it, an apple can last for weeks instead of days, without plastic or a fridge. This means less food is thrown away and huge amounts of energy are saved from cold storage and transport. If everyone wasted just a little less food, we could save enough energy to power all of Sweden for a year!

Energy powers the world. It makes cars move, charges our smartphones and heats our houses etc. To produce energy humans have to dig for stuff in the earth which poisons the world and leaves a lot of ugly holes. If we use oil, gas or coal for energy we have to dig a lot and poison the climate. Heatmixer is a portable pump that keeps the temp right while they work. Result: pipes last 10–20% longer and cities save serious money—so they can connect more homes.
